Emily’s Volunteering Story
Emily Veltri has been an invaluable volunteer with Make-A-Wish Canada for over four years, contributing her time and energy primarily to fundraising events. Her journey with the organization began when she first volunteered to deliver packages for one of Make-A-Wish’s virtual fundraising campaigns. Reflecting on that first experience, Emily shares, “When I saw the opportunity to deliver packages to homes, I immediately offered my help. I’ve been a part of this incredible organization ever since.”
For Emily, volunteering with Make-A-Wish was a long-standing aspiration. “I’ve always admired what Make-A-Wish stands for and all the incredible work they do,” she says. This dedication has led her to numerous rewarding experiences over the years, including the chance to meet two legendary hockey stars—Doug Gilmour and Curtis Joseph—at a road hockey event in London, hosted in partnership with Make-A-Wish. “Every event I’ve helped with has been rewarding and fun. Meeting Doug and Curtis was definitely a highlight—they’re both amazing individuals who give back to such a worthy cause.”
However, it is the personal connections and the deeper impact of volunteering that hold the most meaning for Emily. “The most fulfilling part of volunteering has been meeting the Make-A-Wish families. It’s incredibly moving to know that my time is helping make wishes come true for children and families going through such difficult times,” she explains.
We are deeply grateful for Emily’s continued commitment to Make-A-Wish Canada. Her generosity of spirit helps ensure that more children living with critical illnesses across the country have the opportunity to experience the power of a wish.
