From Wish Kids to wish granters: A Love Story
At Make-A-Wish Canada, every day brings incredible stories of love, resilience, and hope, but some stories leave a mark on your heart forever. This is the story of Keara and Harry—two former wish kids who found love in the face of adversity and now help bring joy to others.
Keara and Harry met during high school in 2018. Keara had just completed her cancer treatments, while Harry was just beginning his own oncology battle. Knowing how tough and lonely that journey can feel, Keara reached out to offer support. What started as a small gesture of kindness blossomed into a heartfelt relationship.
Make-A-Wish Canada played a significant role in both their lives. In 2016, Keara’s wish to experience Walt Disney World® Resort during Halloween was granted. Harry’s wish to see his favourite rugby team play was granted three years later. These experiences allowed each family to focus on something other than their child’s illness and provided much-needed joy during difficult times. Based on a recent survey, 95% of wish parents report that their child’s wish helps to bring the family closer together.
Keara and Harry’s gratitude for their wishes inspired them to give back. Together, they became wish granters, pouring their hearts into creating unforgettable experiences for other wish kids. They’ve been there—on both sides of the journey. They know what it’s like to cling to hope, to need something to look forward to, and to experience the overwhelming joy a granted wish can bring.
From surprise reveals to planning personalized wish boosts, they put their hearts into creating unforgettable moments. For the kids and families they help, they are not just volunteers; they are living proof of the life-changing power of a wish.
Their story reminds us that the impact of a wish can last a lifetime, and when love and hope come together, they can create something truly extraordinary.
