I wish to go to my favourite theme park
Wesley, 10
nervous system disorder
Wesley is a chatty, funny, and outgoing ten-year-old who never hesitates to say what’s on his mind. He is kind and empathetic, especially toward his three brothers, Leon, John, and Titus. Wesley loves singing along to musical soundtracks, reading, and playing video games.

Wesley’s medical journey began the day he was born. Arriving at just 25 weeks, he spent months in the NICU after a brain bleed which led to a condition where his cerebrospinal fluid pools in his brain’s ventricles instead of circulating throughout his body. Eventually he was diagnosed with a nervous system disorder. He has since undergone seven brain surgeries and relies on a shunt to help drain excess fluid. He uses a wheelchair and walker, but his determination is undeniable. Wesley works hard in physiotherapy because he wants to be strong and as independent as he can be.

His wish to go to his favourite theme park was a turning point, not just for Wesley, but for his whole family. It was the most uninterrupted time they had ever spent together, filled with joy, adventure, and new memories. Wesley met characters he loves, tried new foods, and discovered that he and his brothers love thrilling rides. One of the most emotional moments for his parents was watching a nighttime fireworks show, taking in the message of hope and reflecting on how far he has come. “I shed many happy tears,” said his mom, Abigail.

The wish also changed the way the family sees their future. What once felt intimidating – travel, accessibility, long days out – now feels possible. Wesley’s brothers are excited knowing he can join in on their adventures, and they are already planning more family trips together.
For Wesley, the wish wasn’t just fun – it was empowering. For his family, it was proof that joy is still reachable, and the world is full of people who want to help make it happen.
