Claire was only two years old when her family was faced with the devastating diagnosis of leukemia. She was immediately admitted to the hospital where she had a port installed and within two days began chemotherapy. This treatment regimen lasted over two years, consisting of chemotherapy, steroids, lumbar punctures, and countless pokes. Claire has completed her treatment but still struggles with some side effects.

Claire’s wish was set to come true in 2020 but then the Covid-19 pandemic hit, delaying her wish. During this time, she had a change of heart and decided to wish for something that would better reflect her interests now. Her baby cousin was recently born so she wished to go visit the baby and attend the baptism. While in Ontario, she got to explore some of the wonders of the province including Canada’s Wonderland, Ripley’s Aquarium, and a Niagara Falls boat tour. Her favourite thing about her wish trip was seeing different marine animals, especially the whales!

“Being able to take a trip like that together, was a very healing and pleasant way to close that chapter in our lives, and leave it behind on a high note with good memories. We will forever be grateful for that gift Make-A-Wish and all the hardworking volunteers gave us.”
