I wish to visit my favourite theme park

Maëly, 11

brain tumour

Maëly is an 11-year-old girl full of life and imagination. Ever since she was little, she has wished to meet the beloved characters that have shaped her childhood imagination. But behind her bright smile and lively spirit lies a story marked by uncertainty and hardship.

At the age of 5, Maëly experienced a sudden and unexpected event: she collapsed and fell into a coma. It was a devastating shock for her family, who were thrown into unimaginable fear and uncertainty. After a series of tests, the diagnosis was clear: Maëly had a brain tumour. Measuring 4 cm, it needed to be removed as soon as possible, but the surgery was risky, with only a 50% chance of survival. Maëly underwent a 7-hour operation, a terrifying ordeal for the entire family. During this time, her dad, David, and her stepmother, Nancy, lived in constant fear, torn between hope and despair. Her younger brother, Gabriel, also faced his own struggles, coping with his sister’s absence and the heavy atmosphere at home.

Thankfully, the operation was a success, but Maëly had to relearn how to walk and talk, a challenge filled with obstacles. Her family stood by her side, juggling work, medical appointments, school, and supporting Gabriel, who was also deeply affected by the situation.

Today, Maëly’s health has stabilized, though she continues to live with the aftereffects of her surgery. She remains resilient, facing each challenge with courage and determination. To give her a well-deserved break, she was able to fulfill her greatest wish: visiting her favourite theme park. This long-awaited moment was more than just a trip. It was a breath of fresh air, an escape, and a rare opportunity for the family to reconnect and experience pure joy without the weight of illness hanging over them.

Maëly’s journey: A wish that brought hope

Maëly’s wish was an opportunity for our family to enjoy a moment of relief together, without thinking about our daily struggles. For us, it felt like a small liberation—a time of peace and hope. Gabriel suffered a lot throughout this journey, and seeing both of our children happy again was the greatest gift. It was an unforgettable trip, a precious moment that we will always cherish. Knowing that we are not alone and being able to connect with other families who have been through similar experiences brings incredible comfort.
