I wish to have a racing bike
Marie-Pier, 17
blood disorder
Marie-Pier is a radiant teenager with a deep passion for sports. Whether she’s hiking or doing long bike rides, this is when she feels truly alive – especially when she’s sharing them with her father, her lifelong biking partner.
Unfortunately, behind her bright eyes and bubbling energy is a journey marked by illness and extraordinary resilience. At only nine years old, Marie-Pier was diagnosed with a blood disorder. From that moment on, her daily life became filled with treatments, medical appointments and numerous hospital stays.
Despite her uncertain situation, she was able to stay on track with great maturity. Her greatest challenge was when she needed a bone marrow transplant, a crucial step in her journey to a normal life. During her long hospitalizations, a dream started taking shape in her mind: to get on a racing bike and reclaim her sense of freedom with her father by her side. For Marie-Pier, biking is more than just a sport – it’s a way to escape, to breathe fully and, above all, to reconnect with life’s simple pleasures, far away from hospitals.
To help her move past difficult times, Marie-Pier had her long-held dream come true: to receive a high-performance racing bike. Thanks to the generosity of Olivier, founder and owner of Giant Montreal, and to Make-A-Wish Canada, she was able to build a bike in her image. Olivier also offered her all the accessories she needed to get back on the road with confidence: helmet, shoes, specialized clothing, sports watch… nothing was left to chance!
Now that Marie-Pier is cycling again, she’s feeling better than ever and is looking to pay it forward by getting involved in her community, participating in Make-A-Wish Canada events and, one day, becoming a nurse.
