Make-A-Wish Canada Warns of $3M Shortfall Amid Postal Strike
December 10, 2024
As the Canada Post strike continues to disrupt mail services, Make-A-Wish Canada is warning of a potential $3M shortfall in holiday donations and is urging supporters to donate online through its newly launched, accessible giving platform. Traditionally, these vital funds arrive by mail, and without them, the charity risks delaying essential wishes for children with critical illnesses.
“This year, more than 4,000 children across Canada are waiting for their wishes to be fulfilled,” said Meaghan Stovel McKnight, CEO of Make-A-Wish Canada. “While we respect the ongoing discussions between Canada Post and The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), the reality is that we urgently need donor support to ensure no child’s wish is delayed due to this shortfall. In December, 372 children in Canada will be diagnosed with a critical illness, and we need to grant their wishes in order to provide hope and healing.”
Make-A-Wish Canada recently invested in a state-of-the-art online platform that makes donating quick, secure, and inclusive for all Canadians. Developed in partnership with nonprofit technology leader Yeeboo Digital, the website is equipped to handle the increased demand for digital donations, whether on mobile or on desktop, during this critical time.
