Make-A-Wish® Canada Earns Charity Accreditation for Accountability and Excellence

March 18, 2025

March 18, 2025, Toronto, Canada – Make-A-Wish® Canada is proud to announce it has achieved national accreditation under Imagine Canada Standards, marking a significant milestone in the charity’s commitment to excellence and accountability.

Imagine Canada Standards is the most widely recognized set of nonprofit standards in Canada. They are designed to ensure nonprofit and charitable organizations meet rigorous criteria for practices and policies relating to financial accountability, transparency, fundraising and other fundamental areas of governance and operations. A sought-after accreditation, this achievement reinforces Make-A-Wish Canada’s dedication to building even greater confidence in donors, staff, partners and volunteers as it works to grant a wish for every eligible sick child in Canada.

“We understand how important it is for our donors to trust that when they make a gift it is being managed responsibly – so we can grant more wishes for children with critical illnesses,” says Meaghan Stovel McKnight, Chief Executive Officer of Make-A-Wish Canada. “This accreditation provides that assurance that Make-A-Wish Canada upholds the highest of standards and that our generous donors’ gifts are in good hands.”

The Imagine Canada Accreditation Trustmark, proudly displayed by Make-A-Wish Canada, serves as a powerful symbol of integrity in the nonprofit and charitable sector. Of the 170,000 nonprofits in Canada, just over 330 have applied and successfully met the rigorous, independently peer-reviewed, third-party criteria for accreditation.

To earn the accreditation, organizations must meet 73 standards in five key areas: board governance, financial accountability and transparency, fundraising practice, staff management and volunteer engagement.

“I offer my sincere congratulations to Make-A-Wish Canada on their achievement of the Imagine Canada’s National Standards accreditation,” says Bruce MacDonald, President and CEO of Imagine Canada. “This is a testament to their commitment to transparency, accountability and operational excellence as they continue to deliver on their mission and improve health outcomes for children facing critical illnesses across Canada.”
